As the dog days of summer drag on, many people vacation on the Jersey Shore. Still others watch the reality series “Jersey Shore” on MTV.

The second season premiere on July 29 was the number one show in New York, according to the Nielsen Company. An estimated 788,000 watched, as it garnered a 3.9 rating.

Even though viewing habits are drastically changed during the summer, one constant remains.

CBS’ “60 Minutes” was number two for the week with 636,000 and a 3.2 rating on WCBS.

WCBS also registered high numbers from “NCIS” (fifth place---567,000/2.8) and “Two and a Half Men” (eighth place---528,000/2.6).

Of course, as the temperature heats up so does the pennant race. Four Yankee games, all on the YES Network, cracked the Top 10. The highest, a number three showing, was an 11-4 win at the Indians.

TNT’s “The Closer” had a fourth-place finish (583,000/2.9).

The best showing for Fox/WNYW came in at seven with “So You Think You Can Dance” (539,000/2.7).

“America’s Got Talent” gave WNBC its highest rating of the week at eighth (525,000/2.6).

The anticipated season premiere of “Entourage” boosted HBO Sunday night. The comedy cracked the Top 20 in New York.
